Picture this. It’s June. You’re in the beautiful riverside city of Limerick. The sun is shining. The sweet smell of Factor 50 is in the air. You and your friends decide to get a pint but also want to soak in the small window of sun that we get in this country. What should you do? Not to fear, Limerick Drink It In is here to give you our recommendations on which pubs would be the best to enjoy a cold pint on a sunny day.
- The Locke
The Locke is located at 3 George’s Quay, in Limerick City. It is the go-to place in the city for a pint on a sunny day. With a large amount of outdoor seating and its prime location (right next to the river), this spot is one of the better places in the city to enjoy a pint while also working on your tan. They also have hot food, and often have Trad on in the evenings, if your sunny day pints turn into a whole day affair. However, it important to note that when the weather is sunny, the Locke can get incredibly busy!
- Mickey Martins
Mickey Martins is located at 1 Augustinian Lane in Limerick City. It has a great outdoor seating area, with fake grass underneath the tables to add to the outdoor atmosphere. They have great pints and music as well as shaded areas where you can hide if the sun gets too much, and they also offer food to help fill your stomach even more!
- Cobblestone Joe’s
Cobblestone Joe’s is located at 11 Little Ellen Street in Limerick City and is the place to be when the sun is out. The inside of this pub is built much like a greenhouse, making it a great place to enjoy the sun. They have great drinks, as well as great food, and a good outdoor seating area where you can enjoy sunny pints and food with your friends and family
- The Curragower
The Curragower is located in Clancy’s Strand in Limerick City, right next to the River Shannon. It has amazing outdoor seating where you can sit and soak in the sun with a nice cold pint in your hand. They also have great food (I thoroughly enjoy their chicken wings). It’s outdoor terrace has great views of the city, including a great landmark in the city, King John’s Castle.
- House
House is located in Howley’s Quay in Limerick City, also next to the river. This pub is known in the city for being a great place for food and drinks during the day, having great cocktail options as well as the regular few pints. It has outdoor seating area, great music and good vibes. It is also home to the nightclub Amber if your day out turns into a night out but beware: Amber is often 23’s and over.
That’s it for our list of pubs to visit on a sunny day in the city. If you’re going out on a sunny day don’t forget to wear sun cream and protect your skin!
