As we enter another week of lockdown, my once lovely home is slowly becoming comparable to a jail cell. I stare out the window, trying to remember the land that is 2 kilometers beyond my address. The only thought getting me through this tough time, the only light in the darkness, is the thought of a nice cold pint in my hand, and being surrounded by friends (no longer the mandatory 2 meters between us). I’m sure I am not alone in thinking this and luckily you have us, your local pub guide, to give you our opinion on the first pub to enjoy your freedom pint in.
- Pharmacia
Pharmacia is located at 9 Sarsfield Ave in Limerick City and is known for hosting gigs and nights out in its upstairs area. However, this is a pub I frequent quite often with my friends. They have a wide choice of cocktails (averaging at around €8) and pints, as well as friendly staff, which adds to the great atmosphere of the pub.
2. The Red Hen
The Red Hen is a pub located at 15 Patrick Street, in Limerick City and is a perfect spot to grab a few drinks with some friends. They also offer food, if you’re in need for some grub. They also offer cocktails, averaging at €10 if you’re in the mood for a fancier drink. It’s also not a far walk from Icon and Nancy Blake’s if you want a few drinks before turning quiet pints into a full on night out.
3. Mickey Martins
This pub is located at 1 Augustinian Lane in Limerick City, and is the perfect location to catch up with your friends over a few pints. It has both indoor and outdoor seating and great pints on offer. They have great music, lovely staff and a good pint of Guinness on offer, and an overall great atmosphere.
4. Cobblestone Joe’s
Cobblestone Joe’s is located at 11 Little Ellen Street in Limerick City. They are most known for their food, serving delicious pizzas. However, it is also a great spot for drinking, with a large selection of craft beers, as well as the classics on tap. They also have live music, with bands playing there on most weekends. It is a great spot to listen to some music with friends and have a few pints.
5. The Glen Tavern
The Glen Tavern is located at 1-2 Lower Glentworth Street in Limerick City. They offer food until 10pm but is also an amazing pub. There is often live music played there, and is a great spot to have a few pints in with friends. They also have a pool table and other typical pub activities located inside, which add to the great atmosphere inside the pub.
Hopefully this is a helpful guide on which pubs to visit once Leo lifts the lockdown opposed upon us. Although we all miss the pub its important to remember that they are all closed for our safety! Stay safe everyone and see you at the pub!
